So, in continuing with the whole “songs” that you listen to when you are dealing with an episode, or even if you don’t have a mental illness, songs that bring you joy when you’re a bit down.
This day’s song is: “You” by Candlebox
The song, as it is sung, and the lyrics in general, is clearly about drug addiction. I first came across the song when it was featured in the movie “Foxfire.” It starred Angelina Jolie, and since I was a bit obsessed with her at the time, naturally I watched it… and it was actually really good. It’s still on my list of favorite movies.
The song itself and the beat of it are mesmerizing. I can close my eyes and just listen without actually hearing the lyrics. It makes perfect sense to me to use it that way since I never did any hard drugs. Another one of their hits, “Far Behind,” is a song I listen to when I’m on an upswing.
Another thing I relate to this song (even though it was not intended to be this way at all), is that drugs don’t have to be illegal to become dependent on them. I often think about how I’m a slave to my medications. I take 7 of them. I also have a large enough container to put otc meds in it like aleve, zantac, benedryl, etc.
So, I find this song quite powerful. If I’m in a state of despair, it helps to listen to a song that reminds me it could be worse.
