Just a little irritant

This has nothing to do with mental health. I’ve been so busy these last few days that I’ve hardly been at a computer. That said…
Annoyance. I don’t know if you all knew this, but I’m a practicing Christian. The only reason I’m even mentioning it is because my annoyance starts when I searched Amazon for “Christian car window decals.”  The first few were nice, and I continued scrolling. All of a sudden I’m hit with all this 50 shades crap bc of the main male characters name. I was actually more than a little annoyed, to be honest, I was a bit angry.
I’m very vocal about how I hate these books, and it’s not only because of the unhealthy relationship portrayed (which is why most of my friends are against it), but I’m incensed that the author wrote the first book as a fanfic in the twilight fandom, and literally changed names and added a few more scenes. This goes against the basic understanding in fandom. Even if the book wasn’t about this particular subject, I would refuse to read it on principle alone.

Now, do not let this get confused with books written that are inspired by a fandom. Those do not take a pre-existing fanfic and sell it as a book. Inspiration is awesome. Just.. don’t do what this woman has done. (And yes, I was so so happy when there was a Twitter q&a with her and almost everyone bashed her to her face. I know I shouldn’t have gotten so much glee out of it, and I did, eventually come to terms with it to God.)

But… back to my point. I shouldn’t have to see this 50 shades crap. I wish there was an automatic filter where I could make it so that I would never see anything relating to these books at all.

I read Twilight but I will never read 50 Shades of Grey. I also get annoyed when I’m searching for something and my search is filled with trashy crap that happens to have the same name of the thing I want.

It’s just so annoying, isn’t it?! I’ve also read Twilight, but it was bc I was an event coordinator for a bookshop and needed to throw a book release party for the fourth book. Then after that I read that bc I wanted to know what happened (I have this need to read entire series lol). Not my favorite, but everyone likes different things, ya know?

  3. Taking out the fact that FSOG and Twilight are both horrible in terms of romanticizing abuse and assault into account, you didn’t like that she wrote a Twilight fanfic and just changes the names and appearances of the characters? She did technically write an offshoot story, so there is some originality involved. I’m also curious your opinion on The Cursed Child.

Well, first, I agree with you about subject matter. I think I only glossed over it a bit bc of how strongly I feel about fandom. My cousin said she read the fic before it was taken down and the book came out. There’s definitely a possibility I didn’t completely know what she was saying about it or she didn’t explain herself clearly. I’ve never personally seen the original fanfic, but I know there was a big uproar about it in the HP and LOTR fandoms about it, since although I don’t really participate in them anymore, I still read some communities. If it is an offshoot, I don’t mind it as much, but since I never read any twilight fanfic, I can not say for absolute certainty what I feel now. If it were purely original content without including any of the original fanfic, then that just means it was inspired by the fandom, which to me is fine bc inspiration is how all people write, even if they just have a tiny whisper of inspiration. So, as long as the “completely original” story (the actual 50 shades book) wasn’t posted online at all, then I will feel differently. But I don’t know truth or fiction about that bc my knowledge surrounding the subject is all hearsay. I do, however, trust a lot of the people who I’ve had conversations with. I will just have to have no opinion.

Now, as I said, I wholeheartedly agree about what you mentioned about both series. Completely. I just cannot talk about it for personal reasons bc I’m not going to share part of my life to those who would oppose my opinion on it. It’s too emotional for me at this moment in time (I would share it personally to you and a few others though).

I don’t have an opinion on The Cursed Child bc I literally don’t even know what it’s about, and know there was hype about it.
