Don’t get me wrong, folks, I love the show Supernatural and I continue to watch it every week, but I have to ask myself where in the world is this season going?
For instance, there are two major story arcs and one minor one. First off we have the search for Metatron and Gadreal (forgive me if I spell angel names wrong… ) lead by Castiel. There are angels that now want to follow him after he’s killed Bartholomew to FIND Metatron, yet he wants no part of this. Plus, you have Sam and Dean wanting to find Gadreal for tricking Dean into letting him inhabit Sam’s body and for killing Kevin. This is a good arc. I can follow it and it leads to Metatron witholding secrets to reopen heaven so that the balance can be restored and all will end well for the angels and the war may be settled. Great… but then you’ve got the demons…
Right now there’s a fight in hell over who should rule: Crowley, the current king of hell or Abaddon, a knight of hell and pretty much impossible to kill. Dean’s gotten himself wedged into this mess by traveling with Crowley to visit the original Cain (of Cain and Abel) to try to find what was called the “first blade”… the only thing that can kill a knight of hell. Then he finds out that you have to have the mark of Cain on you to wield the first blade for it to be effective, so he gets the mark transferred onto himself so that when they actually do find the first blade he can kill Abaddon (because really, he’d rather have Crowley running the show downstairs than that psychopath).
Then there’s the underlying arc of the end of brotherly love between Sam and Dean that just gets worse with each episode. I cry a little inside every episode when Sam gets all bitchy towards Dean and Dean feels abandoned because in his mind he was just trying to save his brother and he finds out his brother wouldn’t do the same for him. It’s all a mess.
So where are they going? How on earth are they going to solve two story arcs at the same time and do they mesh together in some strange way that I’m not seeing? It’s very frustrating to watch, to be honest. And will Sam and Dean ever mean more to each other than hunting partners again? Too many questions, not enough answers. Guess I’ll have to continue to watch to find out. And what on EARTH are they going to do for season 10?
